Today we compare two 2.1 speaker systems from two different price point, cheaper Logitech Z623 and more expensive Edifier S350DB. Is it worth spending more for Edifier S350DB? Wich one is better value for money? Let's find out!
Build Quality
Starting with build quality and features and right off the bat Edifier jumps on another level compared to Logitech and the price difference starts to makes sense. S350DB is made and finished with much more precision and of much higher quality materials, Z623 feels plasticy and utilitarian next to more premium Edifier. Also feature wise Edifer puts Logitech to a shame, Bluetooth 4.0, remote control, digital and analog inputs, all that comes with Edifer but you can not find those in Z623. Both have almost zero hiss and both use too short cables that connects subwoofers with satellite speakers.
Sound Quality
This is another are where Edifier proves the price difference between tested setups is not an accident, as S350DB next to Z623 sounds like a high end speaker next to budget PC speaker. The biggest difference between them is in the clarity and neautrality of midrange and treble. Logitech has almost no treble as it uses single driver that has to cover all the frequencies above the bass. Z623 also sounds forced, congested and artificial in the midrange, with overall balance that is mid heavy and analytical. Edifier on the other hand sounds cear and detailed across the mids with very good nautrality and very little deviations from neutral balance. Also treble is on another level in S350DB, injecting the sound with air and treble extension that is nowhere to be found in Z623. Sound stage of S350DB is bigger, more precise and more 3D than flat and blurry soundstage in Z623.
Bass wise these two posses strong subwofers reproducing the bass with authority, but again Edifier shows control over bass frequencies that Z623 just do not have. Z623 has too much bass that is slower and less precise. Another way S350DB bests Z623 is in the way sound from subwoofer connects with the sound coming from satellite speakers. In case of Z623 subwoofer is audible as a separate source of sound to the satellies, bass is doing its own thing and satellites their own this. On to of that subwoofer is playing too high in the frequency range smearing the male vocals and making them too heavy and boomy. S350DB creates much more coherent sound that is almost as good as with typical 2.0 speakers systems with added weight and impact of the sub. This is much apreciated especially while listening to music, with movies it is not as important but still beneficial.

Conclusion
Edifier S350DB is a fantastic multimedia speaker system with great set of features and premium build quality, that will work great for movies and games as well as high resolution music playback. Edifier's qualites justifiy the price jump from Z623 for anyone looking for true high quality 2.1 speaker system. With all that being said, Z623 is not a bad system especially with its current price. Logitech is a solid choice for gaming and occasional music watching, just do not expect it to reproduce your high resolution musica files with high fidelity.
